These are good questions Fulltimer. The best thing to do is keep your site as focused as possible. Of course you are free to focus on as many keywords as you want, but the idea is to keep them as related as possible to attract as much targeted traffic as possible.

Plus, when your site is focused around a specific niche, it's easier to rank higher for certain keywords than if you tried to cover too many topics. So instead of ranking well for a handful of keywords, you might end up ranking very poorly for a lot more. So it's much better to keep your niche as focused as possible and keep your audience in mind.
