This is just from my existing content. The Web stats that SBI! provides totals up the number of different keywords you were found for in a month. So that's where that number came from.

So out of my 40+ pages, I get found for 19,000 different keywords. For my other site that number would probably be higher (I just don't have the stats to calculate it) because 2create gets almost double the traffic.

Here's why that happens. An article is filled with dozens of keywords right? Some keywords you may be consciously trying to rank high for and then there are the others that you get found for because they aren't as competitive.

Say you write an article about aromatherapy and you're targeting that term. "Aromatherapy" gets you the most traffic because the content is obviously focused on that main term and perhaps you have other pages linking to that page using the term.

But in that article you may also mention "stress relief". Google or any other engine may determine your article is somewhat relevant for that phrase too so you could also get found for that phrase. You may not rank as high but you can still get found for multiple keywords in one article.

I didn't consciously try to do this. It just happens when you write content and it's a wonderful thing. I'm sure everyone else here experiences a similar thing. You will too once you have traffic.

I'm glad you posted this question because I've seen a lot of people try to copy my concept (that's what I get for publishing my success ) because they think they need to create a site about flat stomachs or something similar to get the same kind of success and traffic I do. But the truth is, this concept works with multiple niches if you build up enough content.
