Hey Jewel,

You can simply upload the word document to your server then link to it. When the user clicks on it their browser will ask them what they want to do with it. They can open the word document with microsoft word then save it to their computer right from word.
You can also place a simple text document (made with wordpad or something similar on your computer) into a zip folder and upload that to your server and link to it. When your user clicks on that link they will be prompted to save the zip folder.
You can also put both (word format and txt) into the zip folder so they can have the option of which to use.
Pdf's are fine for very large format documents but for something such as a checklist it is kind of a system hog.
